PRAISE THE WIFI PHOTOSHOOT

My work is coming to the point of needing an image that in some ways 'summarises' my project.

Based on the success of my COP work, I have decided to do a photoshoot featuring myself in a character, this character, to reflect the nature of the work will have similarities to the virgin mary, however, to stay in context will be relevant and hold visual and theoretical ideas based on the internet and nostalgic digital platforms.

I have contacted a level 6 photography student who's photography style looks perfect for the imagery and theme of the photographs that I am going to attempt to achieve.

What am I thinking?? PLAN OF ACTION??

The direction of my work at the moment has been leading towards a collection of items and things that all work together forming something, perhaps an installation, a book?

I've been able to see that a lot of my work revolves around the idea of the internet and religious following, perhaps the combination of these things can be something where my work begins to focus on?

I really like the idea of a collection of my work on a physical form coming together to form a book or a bible, a religious text that people follow in the same way as the bible? It could include images, words, teachings ect, all made by me with my work. this would be an amazing chance to create something physical.

The book could be a part of an installation, a shrine? the shrine would revolve around this book, about the internet being a religion. I could follow religious imagery and iconography in the same way, perhaps candles? crosses, jewellery all in the same way that religion does but recreating it in a way that follows in the internet. The classic internet symbols will replace or cover up the existing religious imagery.

Facebook Church Installation

"In this interesting installation, the iconography of the social media age takes over a 17th-century Venetian church, Sant’Antonin. A large sculpture of Facebook’s ‘f’ logo stands cross-like in front of the altar. Overhead, large bas-reliefs created from plastic mesh show neo-apostles erecting a satellite dishes and huddling around an iPad. On the floor, weathered fragments of wood, presented as if relics of Noah’s Ark, display familiar social media symbols like the ‘mail’ icon and Twitter logo."

"One theme of the installation is that as people are becoming less spiritual, the rituals and iconography of the internet age are usurping those of religion in general and Catholicism in particular. However, in this installation, the trappings of Christianity are not being abandoned; the religious artwork, relics and structures are still there, but the new social media iconography is superimposed over top of them. Hasn’t society always been this way, with the new laid over top of the old? When today’s monotheistic religions first took root, didn’t they also adopt or cover over some of the existing pagan rituals and symbols?"

"Rituals and symbols have long been there. People find comfort in daily rituals—to pray before going to bed or to log-in to a social media site immediately after coming home. They find purpose in participating in shared experiences—going to mass or joining an online forum. They find solace in familiar symbols and sounds—the clacking of prayer beads or the beep of a message notification. Although the rituals, experiences and symbols may change, our basic human need for ritual remains."

Great process with the project so far!!
Really interesting aesthetic.
Symbolism between the internet and a religious movement?
Making an installation based around a book of final images?
Making a shrine?
Frames - decoration around the work - makes the frame a piece of artwork.
