Project - Set of Digital Stickers Research

 Initial Ideas For Project

  • Create a series or an individual character or theme to create a set of stickers designed to be sent on Facebook messenger or snapchat.
  • Have the possibility to be transferred into a set of physical stickers or other merchandise such as notebooks or sketchbooks?!
  • Be appealing and relating to my other practice.

EXAMPLES

  • Characters showing different emotions and feelings.
  • Different situations and scenarios.
  • I'm drawn to the more cute, cartoon characters as I find this aesthetic more appealing, maybe my set will work alongside this.
POSSIBLE ADVANCEMENTS?
  • Kimoji - Set of keyboard stickers to send in the same way as emojis.
  • Advancements to merchandise, physical stickers and other products.

Chat with Ben - Progress

  • Interests within art and self stye ect work together and create a character and style. My self influences my work and vise vera.
  • Note down favourite companies to possibly contact for internships ect.
  • Just keep playing and making, keep a diary and sketchbook for colours, shapes, patterns.
  • Really good how work influences from each module.
  • Will penguin book help me? Might be interesting to see where it leads.
Stickers? Earrings? All very positive, keep doing what I'm doing!

PROJECT: Penguin Books - Adult Non Fiction

A Brief History of Time.
Why do I want to do this?
  • I felt that my penguin entry last year for to kill a mocking bird was rushed and didnt represent the style of illustration that I want to create.
  • I feel that this year I will spend a longer and more sustained amount of time on my inital design and concepts behind the cover which will hopefully ensure that it's more successful?
  • Ths will allow me to expand my knowledge on graphic design on a design based level.

PROJECT - Creative Direction within fashion design - Initial Ideas

Initial Idea
  • Earring's and T-shirts, General fashio range, designed, created, advertised, resulting in a mini exhibtion/Zine/ Publication based on ideas and direction.
  • Based around a selected theme - linking to passion of set design outlines in presentation.
  • Contextual, Image and visual based
RELATING IMAGES.

Artist - Marina Fini - Set Design - Creative Direction
 RELATING IDEAS
  • "Metamodernism"
  • Vapourwave aesthetic
  • The techno renassance
  • Gender Fluidity
Artist - Dom Sebastian - Photographer - Visual Communicator

 Vapourwave
"The subculture surrounding vaporwave is often associated with an ambiguous or satirical take on consumer capitalism and popular culture, and tends to be characterized by a nostalgic or surrealist engagement with the popular entertainment, technology and advertising of previous decades. It also incorporates early Internet imagery, late 1990s web design, glitch art, and cyberpunk tropes in its
cover artwork and music videos."
WORRIES
  • My ideas and work becoming too influenced and therefore too similar to what has already been made.
  • I still want my work to be my own, my illustrative style and tone of voice needs to come through.
  • Time restraits, will I have time to actually host the exhibiton, could it just be a proposal?
NEXT STEPS
  • Further research
  • Initial image creation
  • Ideas for jewllery? T shirts? Tote Bags?

Thought Process and Weakness

I feel that my strengths are within the way that I use detail and mark making within my image making, I often focus on the smaller elements and the way that I can add smaller embellishments and lines within my drawings, I have decided to focus on a more shape driven way of creating for my 'weakness' image. Through working with bolder block colours and a shape centred piece I am able to explore the way that I can step away from my comfortable way of creating.

I looked at the specific colours that I use in my work and went for the opposite exploring a range of earthy and more natural tones as oppose to the brighter colours that I am used to using in my work.

I wanted to represent the way that my ideas and thoughts often intertwine, after the presentation last week I came away feeling worried and confused about my practice, I'm not sure where my ideas and way of working will stand when I finish university. The shapes that I have used link and tangle around each other, representing my ideas and despite the lines and shapes appearing tangled, in some ways they work together creating something bigger and unusual.

  • Don't want to lose my more traditional illustrative style - want to keep this in my work but I feel that my practice is heading in a different direction.
  • Self Portrait - using a gif to represent the way my practice is changing - dream state, confused about the direction I'm heading in?

FEEDBACK

  • Am I being too harsh on myself? My practice has a deeper level than just aesthetic - maybe a fine art direction?
  • Meaning and conceptual thinking is a large part of art direction and this is something i need to take into consideration.
  • Work links to ideas within metamodernism and so do my interests with the specific art directors that I have put into the presentation - look up this and do some research?
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore the meaning of metamodernism and the meaning behind it?
  • Consider what I could do to expand my practice and begin to swerve my practice in the direction that I am wanting it to.
  • earrings? zines? posters? consider and create !

God's Own Junkyard

  •  A collection of Neon lights - Europes Largest.
  • I loved everything about visiting this museum, the colours, the collections, the objects from different times placed together in a composition.
  • I would really like to explore this idea further, combining different ideas and imagery in a different form of image.
  • Considering different aesthetics and art styles and working them together in a form of collage.
I need to consider how I can make this project my own in terms of creating a body of work inspired by God's Own Junkyard.
I came away from the trip feeling incredibly enthused and excited about work and the possibilities of creating a form of instalment or creation based on this.
